Finding Inspiration & Testing Gear
On what will be my last camping trip on land that isn't mine, I took advantage of the Las Vegas Bay area above Lake Mead to try out some gear for the many camping/build trips that lay ahead for me.
Mojave County is where I landed, but it’s not where the journey started. In the grand scheme of things, I’ve explored a lot of places trying to figure out where to set up shop. I spent a few years in Montana looking into rural living, but it wasn’t for me. The culture felt a bit extreme, and the winters definitely were. It just didn’t line up with the kind of life I want.
So I turned my attention to the desert Southwest. I based out of Vegas and started exploring areas across Nevada, California, and Arizona, eventually landing on Dolan Springs. It’s about 90 minutes from Vegas and sits at a slightly higher elevation, which helps keep temperatures a bit more manageable.
The property is five acres in a very remote area. I don’t expect it to stay that way forever, but that’s fine, five acres is more than enough for what I need. I’ve only visited the land a few times so far and I am planning a weekend camping trip as I write this. In the meantime, there’s a lot to do, both in preparing the land and documenting the process.
Wish me luck!

No, really. UV protection? Moisture Wicking? Boots? Shoes?.

I am pretty sure nobody will ever deliver anything to this spot so if I need it, I am going to have to have it.
